January 20 (Thursday), 2005

Park Plaza Radisson, Houston, TX
Chase Shields (15-0) vs. Sergio Vela (9-5) Odds/Prediction: Shields 3-1.  Southpaw foe Vela should be learning experience for Shields!
Travis Walker (7-0) vs. Willie Standup!  Note: They tell me both headliners can fight a bit!

Cairo Sports Stadium, Cairo, Egypt
Rashid Matumla (30-6-1) vs. Enrique Areco (39-14-7) Odds/Prediction: Rashid 2-1.  Both fighters have been drilled!  Areco on a regular basis of late!  Don’t like betting overseas, but I’ll drop $200 beans on Rashid for fun!

January 21 (Friday), 2005

Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville, CT
(Showtime) Chris Smith (19-0-1) vs. David Estrada (17-1) Odds/Prediction: Smith 9-5.  Me thinks Smith brain trust Johnny Bos suckered Estrada east.  Smith to stay unbeaten here, but no sure thing!

Sechew Powell (14-0) vs. Patrick Thompson (8-3-1) Odds/Prediction: Powell 13-5.  New Yorker got gift vs. Grady Brewer.  Sechew wins here, but leaks persist!

Reliant Center, Houston, TX
(ESPN2) Juan Diaz (26-0) vs. Billy Irwin (42-5)
(The Ring Magazine #4 Lightweight vs. Unranked)
(WBA Lightweight belt) Odds/Prediction: Diaz 3-1.  Canada’s Irwin can punch and Diaz has been down four times in 26 scraps!  That being said, throwing $2,000 beans on Houstonian.
(ESPN2) Calvin Brock (23-0) vs. Clifford Etienne (29-2-2) Odds/Prediction: PASS! Wouldn’t bet either of these guys with your money!

Feather Falls Casino, Oroville, CA
(Telefutura) Yory Boy Campas (85-6) vs. Eric Regan (23-1) Odds/Prediction: Regan 14-5 Expect height, reach, and age to be the keys here.  Betting $2,500 beans on Regan for two reasons.  1.  Don Chargin made the fight and he handles Regan.  2.  I feel lucky!

Orleans Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, NV
Corenelius Lock (13-2-1) vs. Alex Ali Baba (21-6) Odds/Prediction: Both guys have lost of late.

Dodge Arena, Hidalgo, TX
Johnny Tapia (53-4-2) vs. Nicky Bentz (36-3-2) Odds/Prediction: Tapia 2-1.  Although Johnny seemed dead serious when I saw him  recently, I wouldn’t put your money on him.  Slight lean towards Johnny who is the draw, but Bentz can fight.

Grand Casino Coushatta, Kinder, LA
Oleg Maskaev (29-5) vs. Quinn Navarre (30-12-2) Odds/Prediction: 3-1 Oleg!  Russian in winning slot here.
