Charlie Sheehy began his professional career in Fresno and expects to boost his career there on Saturday.
Sheehy faces D'Angelo Keyes in an eight-round lightweight bout Saturday night at the SaveMart Center in Fresno on a bout that will be broadcast on ProBox TV.
Sheehy, 11-0 (6 KOs), was a decorated amateur boxer who turned professional on a Matchroom Boxing card in October 2021. He went on to sign with Top Rank in 2022 and stopped unbeaten Johnny Bernal at the same venue he fights at this weekend.
“Fresno feels like a second home,” the San Francisco-born Sheehy told BoxingScene. “It is where I started my pro career and where I am going to start the resurgence of my pro career.”
Sheehy has only fought once since July 2024, and that was on ProBox TV, when he stopped Cesar Juarez in March. After a quick start to his career, Sheehy, now 27, is looking to stay active as he covets the chance to be in a bout with a marquee name. Sheehy, who has incorporated swimming into this training camp, has been working towards a fight date since July.
“I am on the verge of being a serious contender at this weight class,” Sheehy said. “I know the type of performance I have to have on a televised stage like this. I need my name out there again. I am back on the scene.”
Keyes, 18-6 (11 KOs), is on a two-fight losing streak, but is coming off an April split decision loss to Haven Brady Jnr. Keyes, a 28-year-old from Houston, is a tough veteran who comes in shape, though he is limited.
“My career is going full circle,” Sheehy said. “I am going to have a lot of my friends making the drive to come see me fight, and I am excited to announce my presence in the division heading into next year.”
