Umberto Savigne continues to make up for lost time, doing his best to maintain an active schedule despite his being upwards of 10 years older than the average prospect.
The 34-year old light heavyweight returns to the ring on March 29 at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York. He will face unbeaten Brazilian prospect Jackson Junior in a scheduled 10-round contest, which airs live on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights.
The show is headlined by Bryan Vera in a middleweight bout against Donaras Bondorovas.
"We are training for nearly six weeks and we are confident that we will reach New York in shape to defeat Jackson Junior,” Savigne (10-1, 7KO) confidently states. “We still have four weeks to polish our technical and physical details, but we are sure that we will return to Florida with another victory.”
Savigne saw TV time in his last bout, an off-the-canvas 10-round points win over Dhafir Smith, which aired live on Pursuit TV and Bounce TV last November. The bout came in supporting capacity to Joan Guzman’s failed title bid against Khabib Allakverdiev.
Savigne showed his mettle by recovering from an early round knockdown to come back and outpoint the veteran. It was enough to convince his promoter of his fighting heart and future potential.
"Humberto is a warrior. His fights are always emotional and full of hard punches,” insists promoter Henry Rivalta. “He's the kind of fighter who can take a win at any time and his determination has led him to be placed at #6 in the WBA rankings. This year we hope to put Humberto against one of the light heavyweights champions”
