UFC President Dana White says everything is on schedule for his plan to stage boxing events in 2018.
White, through the UFC's parent company, is already holding meetings with some of the higher up players in the boxing industry to gain information and map out a strategy for boxing venture.
"I'm meeting with everybody in boxing over the next two months — not Bob Arum [of Top Rank], no — but I just did business with those guys, with [Mayweather's manager Al] Haymon and Mayweather and it was a very good experience, so I met with them first," White said to Los Angeles Times.
White did business with Mayweather and Haymon back in August, when the undefeated boxer snapped a two year retirement to fight UFC superstar Conor McGregor in a boxing match.
Mayweather stopped McGregor in the tenth round at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas - with the contest doing major business with over 4 million purchases on pay-per-view.
As a result, White began to explore the idea of creating a boxing sub-company - and he's been wearing 'Zuffa Boxing' shirts out in public.
"I'm just out talking to people. I'm listening. And then I'll come up with a plan," White said. "I don't exactly know what I'm going to do or what my place is in it. I'm taking in a lot of information right now. Just listening, meetings with the who's who. I'm thinking of just boxing and MMA."
At the moment White is still trying to finalize the UFC's new television deal and there is guarantee where the company will end up after a seven-year, $100-million run with FOX.
That agreement has since expired a few months ago and the two sides have been unable to to reach an agreement on a new deal after FOX offered up $200 million, which is less than half of what the UFC is looking for.
"We're out there talking and very confident we're going to get a great TV deal," White said.
