Last week, Floyd Mayweather Jr. met with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who also owns HDNet fights, to discuss a possible jump from boxing into the world of mixed martial arts. Some are curious as to whether or not Mayweather, the top pound-for-pound fighter in boxing, will become an actual player in MMA. Others are not as happy to welcome Floyd to the MMA ranks. One of those unhappy people is Joe "Daddy" Stevenson, who challenges BJ Penn for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 80 on January 19.

While speaking to media outlet BuddyTV, Stevenson says the sport of MMA does not need a guy like Mayweather.

“[Mayweather] wouldn't be good for our sport,” Stevenson said. “You don't brag about how much money you make.  That's totally disrespectful.  I've seen him in clubs and I've seen the way he treats people and I can tell you, that's not the kind of a guy we want representing this sport. I don't think we need that kind of attention"

Stevenson feels Mayweather is too old to make a successful transition from boxing to mixed martial arts.

"It's moronic for him to think he can cross over and do this at 31," Stevenson said.  "It's like me saying I could be the best in golf.  It looks easy, but I'd sound retarded to say I could go out there after a couple of months and win.  The pressure, the coordination, the ability to play the greens, there are so many things involved.”
