An official press conference was held to officially announce that WBA super featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama (23-0-1, 19KOs) will defend his title against Nicaraguan contender Oliver Flores (27-1-2, 17KOs). The fight will take place on December 31 at the Ota City General Gymnasium in Tokyo.
Flores, ranked at number 7 by the WBA, has won five in a row since getting knocked out in two rounds in November 2012 at the hands of Mexico's Miguel Berchelt, who is currently the WBO #1 and IBF #5 ranked contender.
This will be the eleventh title defense for Uchiyama, who became the WBA super featherweight king in 2010 in Tokyo by winning with a twelfth round TKO over Juan Carlos Salgado.
Uchiyama was designated as the WBA's "super champion" in February 2015 after his successful ninth title defense, by TKO over Argentine Ismael "Cachito" Perez, who could not answer the starting gong of the tenth round.
As part of the card, another twelve round title fight for the WBA flyweight crown as world champion Ryoichi Taguchi (22-2-1, 9KOs) will be measured against Colombian challenger, WBA #9 ranked Luis De la Rosa (24-5-1, 14KOs).
