According to Filipino reporter Salven Lagumbay, undefeated fighters AJ "Bazooka" Banal of the Philippines (16-0-1, 13KOs) and Caril “El Raton” Herrera (21-0, 13KOs) of Uruguay, have signed contracts to fight each other on an undisclosed date in April. The fight will be part of card called “The Time Has Come,” a co-promotion between ALA Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.
Banal, the WBO Asia Pacific Youth super flyweight champion, has a made a lot of noise in the last two-years and many regard him as one of the best young prospects in the Philippines.
Herrera, the WBC Latino super flyweight and WBA Fedelatin super flyweight champion, has been fighting for two-years longer than Banal, but his level of opposition is poor to say the least. The best record of any opponent on his resume is 8-1-1, and that guy he beat in 2006. Most of his opponents have losing records.
The record of Banal is a lot more respectable. He's actually fought some opponents with decent records, guys who were more experienced. He even stopped two other undefeated prospects along the way. Unlike Herrera who fought his entire career in Uruguay, Banal has fought outside of his own backyard. Two of his last four bouts were held in the United States.
