Manchester’s Tyson Fury has left trainer Brian Hughes ahead of his crunch English title rematch with John McDermott on the 25th of this month.  Fury, 22, seemed settled under Brian Hughes but has now left the veteran Manchester trainer and rejoined his uncle, Hughie Fury, in order to prepare for the fight against ‘Big Bad’ John.

“Yes, I know that people talk in Boxing and I’ve done a bit of training and a bit of sparring with a few sparring partners up in Lancaster (Hughie Fury’s base) and what will be, will be, we’ll have to wait and see on the night,” confirmed Fury when speaking to Ben Carey of Boxrec News.

“I’m looking forward to the fight.  It’s certainly going to be explosive and entertaining for the fans so all I can say is ‘don’t blink’.  I’m confident of winning but I’m not going to make a prediction.”

He added: “I haven’t fallen out with Brian Hughes but I needed someone to be on my case every day telling me what to do otherwise I’m the type of guy who doesn’t do it.  Brian Hughes wasn’t present in the gym all the time and sometimes neither was Pat Barrett (Hughes’ chief assistant) so I wasn’t always receiving the sparring and the attention I needed.”

Fury has amassed a 10-0 (8 early) slate but was fiercely criticised in the wake of the first fight with McDermott, which John arguably won only for referee Terry O’Connor to turn in a mind-boggling 98-92 card in favour of Tyson.

Hughes, who was in control for Tyson’s last fight, a single stanza blowout win over Hans-Joerg Blasko in March, will now have to find another heavyweight in order to bring his dream of training a British heavyweight champion closer to reality.
