Undefeated British heavyweight Tyson Fury is targeting a homegrown battle with WBA champion David Haye. Fury has been training with IBF, WBO and IBO king Wladimir Klitschko. He faces Galen Brown on Saturday. Fury wants to redeem British boxing after Audley Harrison's recent performance against Haye.
“I need a few more fights, but I’m on Haye’s tail,” said Fury to the Manchester Evening News . “He’s the one I’m thinking of because he’s the weakest champion. I’m big, I’ve got the heart of a champion, I’m fast and I’ve got good power. I don’t think he’d stand a chance. I’m not scared of him."
“The fight with Harrison was terrible. But Haye was as scared as Harrison to throw a punch. He is terrified of a big man. Any big man who isn’t scared of Haye will give him problems. But Haye had him beat before they went in. That was Harrison’s last chance to gain respect, but he’s done himself in. He will always be remembered for that fight. If it was me, I’d have been right into Haye. I’ve got a cousin who weighs 10st and he’d have put up a better fight. Any boxer would.”
Fury is the mandatory challenger to British champion Dereck Chisora, who was recently scheduled to face Wladmir Klitschko. He plans to target Chisora's title in the next few months.
“He is a limited fighter. He’s British class and I don’t think he will go any further. I’m his mandatory challenger and I’m going to take his title off him," Fury said.
