Local hero Tyrone Spong kept his undefeated record last night when he took part in his 13th fight and made his debut to his fans in Suriname, who he gave a victory and a new international belt by winning the WBC Latino title and retaining the same belt, but the WBO's version.
He defeated Ecuadorian Ytalo Perea by way of split decision over 10 rounds in main event of a card promoted by A&T Events and Promotions run by Andrew Pérez.
The number 13 was not unfortunate for the former world star of Mixed Martial Arts, as he continued his undefeated streak and for the first time went the full distance, this time 10 rounds and claimed victory to raise his record to 13-0 with 12 KOs.
Spong had a tough and brave opponent who not only endured the best of his arsenal, but also fought back often.
In fact, in the first round, the Ecuadorian caught him with hooks to the head and shook him, but without achieving more damage. After that, forced by what happened and being that it was his debut before his people, Tyrone became more aggressive and forced the fight and landed more and better shots, especially after the second half.
There were no knockdowns in the match, where the judges scored it 97-93 (Spong), 94-96 (Spong) and 94-96 (Perea).
Present in the card, Surinam president Desy Bouterse put the belts on Spong chest, accompanied by promoter Andrew Perez.
Also on the card, Colombian Roamer Alexis Angulo scored a knockout in his return to the ring, in his first fight after competing for the WBO world super middleweight championship.
He took down Venezuelan Reynaldo González, after connecting strongly to the body in the fifth round.
Angulo, who lost for the first time to Gilberto Ramirez earlier this year, improved to (23-1-0 20 KOs), while his brave opponent lost his undefeated record after receiving a series of punches to the liver (12-1-0 8 KOs).
