Kostya Tszyu, the coach of the WBA "regular" heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (25-0, 17KOs), is confident his fighter has the necessary skills to defeat WBA/WBO/IBO/IBF Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 51KOs). Tszyu recently became the head trainer of Povetkin, who parted ways with veteran coach Teddy Atlas.
Tszyu, a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, directly stated that he wouldn't even waste his time with Povetkin if he didn't believe the boxer was capable of beating Wladimir. There is a good possibility that Povetkin will finally step in the ring with Wladimir at some point in 2013.
"Let them believe what they want. A lot of people believe that Povetkin would lose [to Wladimir]. That gives us a certain tactical advantage. I have ideas that I've explained to Alexander. We'll sit together and we'll discuss the details [of this plan]. I still need a lot of time to sit and review Wladimir's fights. Honestly, I would not be here and waste mine and Alexander's time - if I did not believe that Alexander could beat Wladimir. I'm sure that in coming fight against Wladimir Klitschko we could finish him in the same manner as we did [Hasim] Rahman," Tszyu said.
