Former undisputed junior welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu is campaigning for the Russian city of Sochi to gain the rights to the 2014 Winter Olympic games. Tszyu was born in Russia, and represented the country in the Tszyu, who was born in Russia and represented the country at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. He later relocated to Australia in 1992.

It was said that a $12 billion dollar investment program will create 12 custom-built sports venues in Sochi. Tszyu tells The Australian that he feel the city of Sochi would be a great location for the winter games.

"Many people are still afraid of Russia and in recent times I went to so many different international events which so many from around the world have gone to and it was unbelievable," Tszyu said. Why can Sochi win, I know how passionate Russian people are towards sport and in recent times there have been three world championships held in Russia. They never want to be second best, they want to be the best."
