During an interview with Spanish publication Endi, former multi-division champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad said that is still withdrawn from fighting, but is willing to return for one last mega-bout against Oscar De La Hoya. Trinidad wants to give his people the long awaited rematch of his 1999 decision win over De La Hoya.
"I am withdrawn and I continue to be withdrawn", said Trinidad. "But, to show respect to all my people, I am willing to do a one big fight. I never have avoided a fight with him (De La Hoya). Six times he was offering to fight me, he was scared and he never signed."
Trinidad further said that if a fight has to happen, it must be at 160 pounds.
"He knows my conditions and he knows my promoter. And it has to be at 160 pounds, that is my weight. Not a pound less."
Trinidad denies that he spoke with De La Hoya in Puerto Rico, and said that Oscar has never told him that he wants to fight him again.
"The story that I have met with him is not true", Trinidad said. "I have not spoken with him and have not authorized anybody to speak to him on my behalf. In my life, since 1999, I have spoken with him three times. When I was in Miami, another time n Los Angeles, and, the third time at the last fight that there was in the Choliseo. And never was it said to me that he wanted to fight with me. We have spoken of other things, of his boxers, but never has said me 'Tito, I want to fight with you."
Trinidad called De La Hoya a coward, because he feels the Oscar is only calling him out because he is retired, and using his name to help with current fight negotiations.
"But, knowing that I am withdrawn (from boxing), he is doing promotion by speaking that wants to fight with me. It's cowardly, because I do not know what other word to say. He has been utilizing my name to promote his fights," Trinidad said.
