NEW YORK – As much trash as Hank Lundy continues to spew Terence Crawford’s way, Lundy respects his undefeated opponent’s skills and recognizes the type of challenge he’ll face February 27.
“I’m not gonna lie – he got the goods,” Lundy said. “He do his thing. I’ve seen Crawford and knew him since the amateurs. I was there when he fought Danny [Garcia]. I’m not gonna lie. He [reminds] me of myself a little bit.
“I remember he drove up to the [U.S. Olympic] Trials. He was hungry. He got beat that year by Danny and Danny became the No. 1 guy at [141 pounds]. But he was hungry. That’s the type of guys that Hank Lundy wants to fight, the guys that’s hungry, because I’m hungry. You know? If he’s the best right now, I’m about to show y’all something.”
The 27-year-old Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs), of Omaha, Nebraska, and Philadelphia’s Lundy (26-5-1, 13 KOs) are scheduled to meet in a 12-round fight for Crawford’s WBO super lightweight title in The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
HBO will televise the Crawford-Lundy fight as the main event of a two-bout broadcast. This “World Championship Boxing” telecast is set to begin with a 10-round lightweight fight that’ll match Puerto Rico’s Felix Verdejo (19-0, 14 KOs) against Brazil’s William Silva (23-0, 14 KOs).
