The sweepstakes continue for the job of training Oscar De La Hoya for his May 5 showdown with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

After turning down Floyd Mayweather, Sr.’s demand of $2 million dollars to train him, dozens of trainers have been contacting Golden Boy Promotions with high hopes of landing the vacant trainer position.

In terms of money, hype and publicity, the pay-per-view battle between De La Hoya and Mayweather, Jr. is shaping up to be one of the biggest battles in the last few years.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that Freddie Roach has been involved in talks for the trainer position, Jack Mosley, who trained son Shane towards two wins over De La Hoya, is campaigning for the position, and even former bantamweight champion Wayne McCullough wants the sought after spot.

Floyd Sr. told the LVRJ that De La Hoya is super tight with money. The elder Mayweather thinks De La Hoya must decide if the upcoming fight with his son is about the money or winning the fight. He still feels that he is the only man that can show De La Hoya how to beat his son.

"It's obvious the man is super tight," Mayweather Sr. said of De La Hoya. "What comes first in this particular situation, greed or the fight? But he can do what he wants. I make money. Money don't make me. I'm going on with my life.

"Oscar's fired every trainer he's had. He's had all the so-called greats and he's fired every one of them, but has he fired me? No. And that should tell you something."
