OPBF super flyweight champion Z “The Dream” Gorres faces a tougher opponent than the come-backing Jose Laureano when he sees action on Saturday on the undercard of the WBO bantamweight title fight between Jhonny Gonzalez and Fernando Montiel at the Home Depot in Carson City.
The California State Athletic Commission apparently disallowed Laureano who last fought some four years ago to step into the ring against the flashy southpaw from the famed ALA gym who is making his debut under Golden Boy Promotions of the great Oscar De La Hoya.
Picked as a replacement was Pedro Rincon Miranda, a 31 year old Colombian who was training for a fight in June. Miranda has a record of 30-10-2 with 25 knockouts but is coming off a unanimous decision loss over six rounds to former world IBA super flyweight and bantamweight champion Mauricio Pastrana who lost in an IBF bantamweight title shot against Rafael Marquez.
Gorres who has a record of 23-1-1 with 12 KO’s has looked impressive in sparring against Daniel Ponce De Leon, the WBO super bantamweight champion at the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach and is expected to continue the winning streak of fighters from the gym of boxing patron Tony Aldeguer whose prized champion Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista scored a spectacular third round KO over Roberto Bonilla last Saturday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
