There is some discussion regarding Rafael Marquez (39-6, 35KOs), a former bantamweight and junior featherweight champion, going up against the World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Toshiaki Nishioka (38-4-3, 24KOs) of Japan. Rafael is in the gym working full steam under the direction of his veteran trainer Daniel Zaragoza. Marquez, who thought he might be fighting on the Chavez-Zbik undercard on June 4 in Los Angeles, is now being positioned to return on the 28th of this month in Mexico.

The tentative plan is to win the next fight, and then return, possibly in October, against Nishioka. Marquez would like to face Nishioka in Mexico, where the Japanese boxer knocked out Jhonny Gonzalez in 2009, but there wouldn't be an issue with taking the fight in Japan if the money is right.
