As BoxingScene.com reported earlier today - Shakur Stevenson, who was the most highly regarded member of the 2016 United States Olympic team, has found a promotional home. It was announced on Thursday that he had inked a deal with Top Rank.
In this Olympic cycle, Top Rank has signed the likes of Stevenson (who won a silver medal in Rio de Janiero), Mick Conlan of Ireland and Brazilian Robson Conceicao. This on the heels of the 2012 Olympics where Top Rank inked Vasyl Lomachenko, Oscar Valdez, Jose Ramirez and Felix Verdejo.
Todd duBoef, the president of Top Rank, is happy with the way his company has fortified their future.
"Yeah, there were three guys that we really wanted, they represented a top, top tier: which were Conlan, Stevenson and Conceicao. One was a gold medalist(Conceicao). We loved all the Olympians but these are the top tier guys who represented either countries or businesses that we thought were very interesting," duBoef explained to BoxingScene.com.
"We liked all of their skill sets and everything like that. It's no indictment to the other kids, we think they have a specialty. But we're very excited about crafting with his team, Antonio Leonard, James Prince and Andre Ward, showing what we do best."
Conlan will be making is pro debut on March 17th on St. Patrick's Day at the Theater of Madison Square Garden.
As for Stevenson's pro debut, duBoef said - "We'll be announcing that shortly."
