Tony Jeffries has laughed off Ilya Shakuro’s verbal attack ahead of their contest in Sunderland tomorrow evening. Shakuro, who is 2-1 (1) to Jeffries’ 2-0 (2), has claimed that Tony lacks the hunger required to get to the top. Shak also claimed that Jeffries is pampered, and has benefited from some home refereeing in his contests thus far.
Jeffries, 24, dismissed his opponent's claims when talking to the Sunderland Echo. “He'll see in the ring tomorrow how hungry I am,” roared Jeffries. “He's obviously trying to wind me up and make a name for himself, and I don't mind that. I've been in boxing 14 years and had to work hard for every chance I've had. I respect every opponent I've ever fought and it's a shame you don't get the same back from some people. He says I'm not hungry – well, I'm starving because I've hardly eaten anything before the weigh-in!”
Tony worked on a burger van prior to his Olympic success, running the business himself in order to make the money needed to train full-time, his fight with Shakuro now has a little bit more bite to it; the fans will relish the occasion.
