Tony Bellew could soon see his dream of fighting outdoors become a reality.
The 33-year-old Liverpool cruiserweight, who is a lifelong Everton fan, has always wanted to fight at the club’s stadium.
Bellew (26-2-1, 16 KOs), a two-time world title challenger, visits Goodison Park to watch his beloved Blues every time they play at their home ground, but has never had the chance to grace the pitch with his pugilistic skills.
But that chance could soon be put into place after it was revealed that the club is keen on hosting a world title fight involving ‘Bomber’.
His promoter, Eddie Hearn, told Boxing Scene that talks have been initiated with regards to the proposal of Bellew fighting at Goodison and said that all parties seem to be on the same page.
“I’ve spoken to Everton and they’re very keen on having Tony fight there,” he said.
“We’re looking at two dates –– either May 28 or June 4 –– and it looks doable, but it’s about finding the right fight, and the right opponent, for a world title fight for him, which is difficult in that division.”
