Former world champion Tomoki 'Mexicanito' Kameda will return to the ring on Saturday after more than a year of inactivity. The fight will take place in Mexico City, against veteran contender Cecilio Santos, as part of a card being staged by Zanfer Promotions.
Kameda has not fought since September 2015, when Britain's Jamie McDonnell saddled him his second loss as a pro in their battle for the 'regular' World Boxing Association title from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Tomoki, one third of the first trio of brothers to become world champions in boxing history, has a record of 31-2 with 19 knockouts while Santos, 38, has a journeyman's tally of 31-30-6 and 19 knockouts.
Tomoki's brothers, Koki and Daiki Kameda, are former world champions who both retired last year.
Unlike his well known brothers, Tomoki's career was groomed in Mexico instead of Japan. He speaks fluently in Spanish.
"I am very happy to be back and in my second home, Mexico. I learned a lot in recent fights, and especially after the last fight. I have worked very hard in these last 10 months, I feel pretty strong. I sure I will get the victory this Saturday," Kameda told ESPN Deportes.
Tomoki, 25, will fight for the seventeenth time on Mexican soil, and he even made his pro debut in the country.
"I'm going to give my Mexican people the usual, a good show. I feel good good when I'm in Mexico and there is no better way to pay [the fans] than with a win," Kameda said.
