Tommy Gilmour had some words of comfort for Jonny ‘Rocco’ Hussey, 15-2 (2), after the Bolton-based boxer’s recent win over Gavin Deacon at Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes.  Gilmour, who is hoping to put together a rematch between Hussey and Charlie King, the beneficiary of a controversial points decision over ‘Rocco’ in Glasgow last June, believes a return would be a close affair and that Hussey should be given home advantage.

“Charlie couldn’t take the rematch recently but we are looking to put it on a Matchroom Sky show somewhere down here in England,” revealed Gilmour.  “It was close enough to have been a draw the first time.  King is very busy and flash, he catches the eye and that is what nicked him the first verdict.  A rematch is a fifty-fifty fight.”

Gilmour is a busy man, promoting shows up in Scotland and bringing fighters down south to feature on Matchroom bills.  Tommy feels that the Scottish scene is a little bit shy of quality at the moment but that there are a few potential world-class talents on the Scottish horizon.

“We are busy with shows up in Scotland so it keeps all the boys busy and gets them a few quid for the end of the season.  It is always good for people to hope for Scottish world champions.  We have some good domestic level boys but we don’t have world-class fighters at the minute.  We have a few good quality fighters waiting to step up,” pledged Gilmour, who believes that recent Prizefighter: The light-middleweights winner Prince Arron, who hails from Droylsdon, could be his next big thing.

“Prince Arron is coming up a treat.  We’ve got Steven Williams on his way up.  Lee McAllister is ready to step up for Scotland and has got plenty of talent.  Hopefully, Lee will be out again in July – though not against John Murray – to get over his recent operation.”

Indeed, Gilmour feels that McAllister took a lot of stick in the wake of his Commonwealth title defence against Sam Amoako, who conspired to make the Sky showcase a nightmare for ‘The Aberdeen Assassin’, 31-2 (7 KOs).

“The other fella was awkward and Lee didn’t get any credit for that fight.  The other guy kept countering him and it was hard to get to the guy.  Lee couldn’t be too cavalier and it was about getting the win,” declared Gilmour.
