Tommy Coyle has revealed that he is out of his next fight due to injury.
The Hull super-lightweight had been set to take on Tyrone McKenna in Belfast next weekend.
Coyle, a former British title challenger at 140 pounds, was meant to meet McKenna on the undercard of Ryan Burnett’s bantamweight unification showdown against WBA ‘Super’ champion Zhanat Zhakiyanov in the first defence of his IBF crown, live on Sky Sports, at Belfast’s SSE Arena.
But their clash, set for October 21, has had to be scrapped after Coyle pulled out with a hand injury.
Boxing Scene had been informed that there was an issue with the fight last week, but official confirmation came on Tuesday as Coyle released a social media statement.
“[I am] absolutely gutted to announce that my fight in Belfast is off,” Coyle wrote.
“[I’ve] been struggling with a hand in training and as a result [I’ve] not been able to complete the training for such a fight.”
According to Coyle, a hand specialist has confirmed that he “should be back punching in two to three weeks”.
For his part, McKenna reacted to the statement by stating his disappointment, though he did say he’d love a scrap with Coyle once he’s back in action.
“There’s nothing more I love than fighting in that ring on the big stage and I’m hoping I can reschedule the fight with Tyrone before the year is out or challenge someone else,” Coyle’s statement continued.
“There’s plenty of other big fights out there to get involved in and I’m excited to conclude 2017 with a bang.”
