Hundreds of boxers from around the world are concerned that the 2020 Olympic Games, taking place this year in Tokyo, will be pushed back.

The Summer Games must be staged between July 24 and August 9. The Paralympics will be between August 25 and September 6.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe insisted on Saturday that his country remains firm in its intention to host the Tokyo Olympics despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Abe stated at a press conference that the idea of ??postponing or canceling the Games has not been raised during his contacts with United States President Donald Trump, who this week suggested that Japan should consider postponing the Olympics due to the outbreak.

Abe said Japan maintains "good coordination" with the International Olympic Committee.

"We are going to overcome the spread of infection and we want to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games as planned."

Abe also indicated that the outbreak has not reached a situation that requires it to declare a national emergency such as in the United States and countries in Europe.
