The heavyweights never cease to amaze me. In an absolute shocker, undefeated Travis Walker (25-1-1, 19 KOs), a highly regarded prospect, was stopped by T.J. Wilson (12-1, 8 KOs) in 15-seconds of the first round in the main event of a ShoBox card from the Raley Field in Sacramento, California.
Wilson jumped on Walker in the opening seconds of the fight, backed him into a corner and unloaded with several punches, including a big left, which prompted referee Raul Caez to jump in to stop the fight. The ending seemed a bit premature. Walker did not seem badly hurt, but he was not throwing punches back as Wilson was unloading. Walker was very upset with the stoppage, as was his team.
This is only Wilson's second fight since 2004. In March, he returned to the ring for the first time in three years.
“I wanted to feel him out a little bit,” Walker told the Tallahassee Democrat . “He didn't do anything. Maybe I need to see something else. He didn't hit me with anything that hurt. It's a title fight. You don't stop a title fight like that.”
Walker's indicated that an appeal will be filed and a request for an immediate rematch.
