Tino Avila (22-0) is extremely excited for his next ring assignment. On May 6th he will face fellow unbeaten prospect JoJo Diaz (23-0) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The unbeaten featherweight isn't just excited for his upcoming fight but also for the fact that it will be part of the Canelo Alvarez-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Cinco de Mayo pay-per-view event.
He said that he has always been curious to see the two Mexican rivals in the ring against each other.
"To me it is an interesting fight. It is a fight that I always thought would be an interesting fight back before all that about Chavez smoking weed and stuff came out," said Avila.
"This time it looks like Chavez is training and in good shape and taking it serious. I think it should be an interesting fight about Mexican pride."
Alvarez will move up in weigh 10.5 pounds for the fight that is contracted at 164.5 pounds. Canelo usually is the bigger man in the ring and Avila is very interested in seeing how the two boxer's contrasting styles play out when they finally meet.
"I think Chavez has an an advantage by being bigger but Canelo has more speed and power. They always say speed generates power and he has the better speed and the better head movement. All around he is he better fighter, just Chavez is the bigger man. If being the bigger man can help him get the win so be it but I think Canelo is too slick," opined Avila.
The pay-per-view undercard will also include former middleweight champion David Lemieux against Marcos Reyes and the return of Lucas Matthysse who will face Emmanuel Taylor. Avila believes that the overall card is one of the better pay-per-views in recent years.
"I think it's probably one of the most stacked cards to ever be on pay-per-view especially on Canelo-Chavez. I think it's one of the biggest fights to happen. Me personally, I think it's bigger than Mayweather-Pacquiao and Triple G-Canelo because it's two Mexican fighters fighting Cinco de Mayo weekend. Mexican pride is on the line. To me it's just a bigger deal and a really stacked card," Avila told BoxingScene.com.
