Bernard Hopkins should be ashamed of himself and it’s high time that he apologize to Joe Calzaghe for his racist taunt, says WBC President Jose Sulaiman.
The I’ll never loose to a white boy jibe from Bernard, was delivered in a face to face confrontation with Joe in December in Las Vegas. Since then, there’s been no apology and the situation is still festering, in the build up to their April 19th light heavyweight fight in Las Vegas.
Commenting on the B-Hop stumble Don Jose said: “Bernard Hopkins should be ashamed of himself. He should not have said that and he should apologize. I really criticize very strongly the use of racism in the verbal participation of the fighters. He who uses racism should be scorned.
Don Jose added that he feels that this is not the Bernard Hopkins he once knew. He stressed: “I think Hopkins is changing. He used to be a much more humble boxer when he was in his prime. Today he thinks he can say whatever he wants because he is a super hero, but this is not acceptable.
“Racism is going back to the past. Since the defeat of apartheid in South Africa all the people of the world are trying to eliminate discrimination. So I believe he did wrong and he should apologize.”
Don Jose also added that there’s still time for Bernard to put right the wrong he has done.
