WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith Thurman (25-0, 21KOs) is looking to do a number on Luis Collazo (36-6, 19KOs), when they clash on July 11th at the USF Sundome in Tampa, Florida. The fight tops the Premier Boxing Champions debut on ESPN.
Thurman is hoping to upstage British star Amir Khan, who faced Collazo last May on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana undercard. Collazo went down three times in the loss to Khan. He came back in April and got a second round knockout of Christopher Delgado.
Thurman was in action in March of this year, when he battered former champion Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero over twelve rounds.
"Floyd Mayweather fought Robert Guerrero for his first fight on the Showtime contract, so me and Floyd already have a common opponent and the world knows that I was able to cause more damage to Guerrero than Floyd was. I look forward to doing the same thing to Collazo, giving him more damage than Amir Khan gave him," Thurman told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
"After this, it’s going to be the same as everything, I’m ready for the world. I’m ready for the best fighters in the welterweight division and if that means Amir Khan, bring it. If that means Shawn Porter, bring it. If it means Floyd Mayweather, bring it."
