WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith Thurman says Amir Khan needs to wait his turn for a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr., who plans to return to the ring on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
For at least two years, and possibly longer, Khan has been pursuing the fight with Mayweather.
Thurman has been chasing the fight with Mayweather as well. He feels the only worthy challengers to Mayweather, in September, is himself and IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook - who already plans to return on September 12th as well, but in the UK likely against Brandon Rios.
"Right now there are three challengers. There is Kell Brook, 35-0 and IBF world champion. Amir is in the running. And then there is me, Keith 'One Time' Thurman - the highest ranked American fighter in the welterweight division...the hardest hitting welterweight in the division....and another undefeated welterweight," Thurman said.
"A lot of people feel that Floyd is so undefeated that is he fights anyone who has already been defeated - then he's going to do it too. When we someone lose, we call that a blueprint. We're going to be very honest. Amir Khan has been beaten more than once......more than one blueprint out there. I'm undefeated, Kell Brook is undefeated. I like Kell and I like myself for Floyd Mayweather."
