Unbeaten welterweight hope Devin Parrish has signed for Christy Martin Promotions.

The 5-0 (5 KOs) Chicago prospect began boxing aged 15 and fought more than 60 times in the amateurs, boxing in the US and abroad and capturing regional titles, including the Chicago Golden Gloves.

“The goal was always to turn pro,” said the 25-year-old Parrish, who is trained by George Hernandez out of the Garfield Park Boxing Gym. “I go to the body a lot and gain momentum as the fight goes on. That’s why I had so many good third rounds in the amateurs. I wear my opponents down with power, mixed with volume and pressure.”

Hernandez had reached out to Hall of Famer Martin trying to get Parrish work, but after fighting on her cards twice, she asked Parrish to put pen to paper.

“I feel like a real pro now with security and structure,” said the fighter. “I have a fight date coming up with time to plan and train and I know there will be other fights after that. It feels much more real now, like I’m on a true path. I know she’ll move me correctly.”

Parrish will next fight at The Reserve in Nashville on May 17 at Martin’s “The Boxing Match to Raise Awareness for Domestic Violence” show.

Martin, one of the great female fighters of all time, said: “I cannot wait to be a part of Devin’s rise to the top of boxing. He’s a throwback type of fighter who never stops coming forward. He will wear down a lot of fighters with his educated pressure and consistent body attack. I’m very happy to be working with Devin. He’s a nice guy from a great family with tremendous potential to become a world champ.”
