A furious Tony Thompson caught up with BoxingScene.com and chuckled at the notion that finding an opponent for Luis Ortiz is "Mission Impossible."
BoxingScene reported on Friday that Ortiz's upcoming defense of the WBA interim-heavyweight title hit a snag, when a tentative deal with planned opponent Alexander Dimitrenko fell apart.
Ortiz is scheduled to return on March 5th on HBO.
Thompson is ready to step in there and take the fight.
Thompson: Are these fools trippin'? I just called Ortiz out on BoxingScene and I predicted Dimitrenko would have a panic attack before he ever got in the ring with Ortiz and now they sayin' 'mission impossible' to find an opponent. Who these guys think they foolin'? I live across the street from the venue and I don't believe one person on planet earth thinks Dimitrenko is better than me. I'm sitting here waving a flag saying 'I'll fight this big chump' and they coming back with 'we can't find an opponent?' Man, they can't find a bum like Dimitrenko, that's what they really mean.
BoxingScene: So you've had no contact with Ortiz's people.
Thompson: None. The headline should read 'Mission Impossible To Get Ortiz To Fight Tony Thompson.' My manager reached out to Golden Boy last week and HBO this morning. Nothin.' My promoter reached out to Golden Boy. Nothin'. It's mission impossible alright, to get Ortiz to fight someone with a pulse! I beat Solis twice. I beat Price twice. Fought 17 rounds with Klitschko. Went the distance with Pulev and Takam. And that's all recently. What has Dimitrenko done? Passed out just before his last big fight? I ain't done that. If that's what they looking for, that's not me. I showing up to whoop that ass.
BoxingScene: So it's safe to say Tony Thompson wants to fight Luis Ortiz on March 5?
Thompson: It's safe to say Tony Thompson wants to expose that fool on March 5. It's also safe to say that saying 'mission impossible' to find an opponent is some b***s**t!
BoxingScene: Thanks for your time. Closing thoughts?
Thompson: Please stop lying to the people. I'm way better than Dimitrenko and I'm the best opponent this guy has ever fought and will ever fought because I will retire the oldest 35 year old on earth. I'm done playin.' Putting the boxing world on notice. Don't believe the hype!
