Thomas Mattice has signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom.
Mattice (20-3-1 15 KOs) recorded the biggest win of his career in his last outing, taking the unbeaten record of Christian Tapia in his Cleveland hometown in November, and landing the WBC Continental Americas Super-Featherweight title in the process. Mattice floored the Puerto Rican in the second round and kept his nose in front to land a massive victory in a division he has been longing to establish himself in.
‘Gunna Man’ had previously pushed Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz all the way in February 2020, being edged out via Majority Decision at Lightweight in Philadelphia, and now the 32 year old is looking to bring more big fights to Cleveland alongside his gym and stable mate Montana Love.
“I’m very excited to sign with Matchroom,” said Mattice. “This the perfect platform for me to showcase my talents and chase down World titles. I’m now fighting in the division I should’ve been, so I’m here now and planning to be the face of it.
“I came up short a few times in fights that I should’ve won, but that’s in the past – 2023 is going to be the best year of my career as and I’ll make my presence felt at 130lbs.”
“I’m delighted to welcome Thomas to the team,” said Hearn. “Thomas is a great example of what happens when you take opportunities given to you with both hands. In Cleveland, in front of his home fans, Thomas took a gamble, beat an unbeaten fighter and has now been rewarded with a contract. Thomas is a lesson to young fighters out there to believe in yourself and back your ability, because good things can happen – and we look forward to more big fights for Thomas in 2023.”

Is Eddie up to no good? I don't think so. Made Haney a champion. Montana Love is very good
but couldn't get opportunity until Eddie also gave him multi-fight contract. While the business side
got the best of Eddie with Conor Benn situation for the most part I believe Eddie has good intentions.
Just remembered when Tim Witherspoon was due $1,000,000 purse but took home around $90,000
after all of Don King purse deductions. Tim sued and later settled.
What's worse!
Huh? How did he make Haney a champ...champ? Haney was already "email" champ because Hoemachenko accepted the bytchazz franchise belt before he got to him. Montana Loce fought on a Showtime PPv undercarriage with Jake Paul before ruining his career by going with dead zone. He dies not have good intentions if he was going to let Conor fight with two failed steroid test. That guy is a POS and you guys know it!

This and the comment above it are just so true. Hearn, the British, Europeans, and entire world don’t really understand the group I now call “foundational black Americans.” Hearn really thought he was going to just pry those FBA fighters away from Haymon. This is why he took it so personal when Wilder, Broner, Tank, the Charlos, Spence, etc etc wouldn’t sign with him. Where Hearn messes up is he mentions PR and Chicano fighters by their respective heritages but he doesn’t want to acknowledge FBAs and theirs. That in itself is revealing, he has never once referred to a black American fighter’s heritage and clearly at this point in time in American history, FBAs are establishing their plan on spending their dollar within exactly the way Jews, Mexicans, Vietnamese, Greeks, Italians etc etc do in the usa.
this is also why so many of the British sports fans filled the internet with morbid and vile racist remarks about black Americans on social media and especially YouTube and here circa 2018-2020 or so because of their unwillingness to buy into Hearn and dazn. They really took that personally. FBAs are a different people than black Britons. They may look the same to the untrained eye but they are vastly different people with a different culture and history. Streuth! Even the Caribbeans and the Nigerians different from each other in the U.K.!
This is a solid post. Additionally, in the UK nearly all fighters that have world titles are going to do well - even guys holding the British and European titles do well. In America, a world title is the bare minimum - often times, you need to have serious superstar personality and marketing AND a world title to be a moneymaker. This is why PBC has the loyalty is has - Haymon has a sterling reputation for financially taking care of everyone in his stable in a sport where it's often every man for himself. Haymon has been a cancer for the sport in some ways, but when it comes to taking care of his fighters he stands a world apart.
Posters wouldn't know it, but I was a huge fan of Hearn and still think he's a great promoter in the UK and usually great for British boxing... recent Benn incident notwithstanding. But he just hasnt any idea how to build boxing in the US any more than better positioned guys like Dana White do, and Matchroom USA really just muddied that waters even more when that was the last thing we needed.

Few people on Planet Earth understand less about America and especially Black America than Eddie Hearn. I mean there are uncontacted tribes that have a better read than this bro

Hearn is a ****ing moron.
I seriously wonder if he thinks any black American fighter can just be a star if he puts them on TV.
I think he signed this lad for the opponent role only
