Respected author and award-winning boxing writer Thomas Hauser has joined HBO as a consultant, Hauser and HBO spokesman Ray Stallone confirmed Wednesday.
“Tom will develop some ideas that he has, and we will also give him some projects that we want him to explore on our behalf,” Stallone said via email. “As you know, he has a deep interest in the sport and has been around the sweet science for a long time.”
Hauser deferred comment to Stallone.
For several years, Hauser wrote numerous articles critiquing HBO’s boxing brand while providing ideas on how the network can fix its internal issues and better its boxing product. The old network regime, led by now-former HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg, is a thing of the past.
Ex-Showtime executive Ken Hershman replaced Greenburg in January.
BoxingScene.com was also informed that Hauser will have no decision-making authority at HBO and is not authorized to represent the network to third parties in business matters.
