Puerto Rican prospect Thomas Dulorme (16-1), who had a good run in the welterweight division, suffered his first loss on Saturday night in Verona, New York. Dulorme was knocked out in seven rounds by the hard-hitting Argentine puncher Carlos Abregu (34-1 28KOs).
Dulorme doesn't have any problems making the welterweight limit of 147-pounds. He plans to take a break and return in 2013 as a junior welterweight.
"The plan after this fight is tp get some rest and come back in 2013, but possibly at 140 pounds," Dulorme told Raul Alzaga.
"It's not making excuses or anything, but I make 147 while eating rice and beans, without starving. And when I go into the ring, I'm [weighing] 150 or 151 pounds, while my opposition comes in at 165 or 170 pounds. [They come in] stronger and it showed in this fight. Perhaps at a lower weight, I will not have that disadvantage if I sacrifice a little more."
