At Benjamatheputit School in Petchburi, Thailand, hometown fighter Thepparith Singwancha (16-2, 10 KOs) won a razor close unanimous decision over previously undefeated Drian Francisco (20-1-1, 16 KOs) to win the WBA's interim-super flyweight title. Francisco was making the first defense of the title he captured from tough veteran Duangpetch Kokietgym in November, and there were many who viewed him as the next Filipino star. The scores were 114-113, 114-113 and 117-111. A knockdown in the third round was the difference in the close points scoring for Singwancha.
