Ashley "Treasure" Theophane has been finishing his training camp at Freddy Roach's World famous Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, Los Angeles for his fight on Miranda Carter's Left Jab promotion, December 6th at York Hall, Bethnal Green.
Theophane spent 5 weeks in training camp with World Rated NO.3 Dmitry Salita up in the Pocono's Mountains in Penslyvania.
He was due to fight former Undisputed Welterweight Champion Zab "Super" Judah at Madison Square Garden on the Undercard of Roy Jones Jr v Joe Calzaghe November 8th. That fight fell through with 2 weeks to go so Theophane flew to LA to finish training for his 27th fight in 3 weeks.
Manny Paciquao and Amir Khan are also in camp at the Wild Card gym so the gym is packed with talent from all over the World.
Theophane gets through this fight in 3 weeks and former World Champion "Vivious" Vivian Harris has been named as a possible opponet for early 2009.
If Theophane can get into the mix. 2009 could be a big year for him.
Munroe in Dublin to accept Dunne challenge…or duck Dunne challenge?
Bernard Dunne and his manager Brian Peters are delighted to hear that European Super Bantamweight champ Rendall Munroe is due in Dublin tomorrow morning for a press conference.
Perhaps Munroe is ready to accept Peters latest offer of £60,000 to defend his title against Dunne…or maybe he’ll try to explain why he’s defending his title against an obscure Italian in Dublin next month.
That of course would take some explaining given that Maloney’s excuse for turning down Peters most recent offer of £40,000 was that Munroe had no interest in defending his title in Dublin.
Peters has now upped that offer to £60,000 following Dunne’s win over world ranked Cristian Faccio at the Breaffy House Resort in Castlebar last Saturday night – the kind of payday that to date has only existed in Munroe’s dreams.
Peters said, “Munroe’s scheduled to defend his title against a guy by the name of Fabrizio Trotter, and lets be honest it’s a fight for only fools and horses. If Bernard fought this guy we’d be crucified but good luck to Munroe.
“He or at least Frank Maloney can obviously afford to turn down these offers. I’ll be intrigued to hear tomorrow, straight from the horses mouth just why Munroe isn’t interested in making what he supposedly considers an easy £60,000.
“They’ve said they don’t rate Bernard as any threat so why not take the money that’s on offer? Can Frank guarantee me, or more importantly for Munroe’s sake, can he guarantee Rendall that he will make the kind of money I’m offering him for one fight in his next 3 fights combined?
“I’d certainly be very interested in hearing the answers to all these questions tomorrow although presumably excuses about mandatory defences and television obligations will be trottered out. Or maybe they’ll show a bit of imagination and come up with a new excuse.”
Peters admits that despite this latest lucrative offer he believes the chances of Munroe accepting are remote. “I’m not expecting them to accept to be honest and anyway a world title fight remains our priority but Bernard can always make time for reclaiming the European title on the way.
“I had the fabulous new O2 Arena in Dublin booked for January 31st and I was hopeful of delivering Bernard his world title chance then but the cut suffered against Faccio will likely postpone that but we’ll see how it heals up and we can target a new date then.
“I’ve already spoken with some of the world champions at both super bantam and feather and I believe I can tempt them to Dublin. Clearly there are some champions out there willing to accept a decent payday in Dublin even if Munroe isn’t.”
As for Dunne he’s not dwelling on it a possible Munroe fight any longer, “I don’t think it’s going to happen,” admitted Bernard. "Brian has already made him a couple of very lucrative offers and for whatever reason they said they weren’t interested in fighting me in Dublin, yet he’s going to be here next month defending his title.
“I respect Rendall, he’s a good fighter and maybe if it was down to him he’d take the fight but for whatever reason his team don’t seem interested so if that’s the case we’ll move on. I feel I’m ready now for that world title fight anyway. The clash of heads aside I was very happy with my performance on Saturday and I want to really step it up from here on in.“
MANNY ROMAN AND JESUS HERNANDEZ IN FEATURED BOUTS AT MONTEBELLO ’S QUIET CANNON ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21ST
LOS ANGELES, CA (November 16, 2008) Undefeated ESPINOZA BOXING CLUB prospects Manny “SUAVECITO” Roman and Jesus “POLLO” Hernandez return to the ring in the feature bouts this Friday night, November 21st at “BATTLE OF THE RISING STARS” presented by ALL STAR BOXING at the Quiet Cannon Ballroom in Montebello, California.
The 20 year old Roman, a native of Tijuana , Mexico , now living in Paramount , California , will face Santa Ana ’s Jose Luis Cardenas in an eight round flyweight bout. The always entertaining Roman has two big wins in 2008, a decision win over Sergio Espinoza in April and most recently a unanimous decision over Juan Javier Lagos at the Sycuan Resort and Casino in EL Cajon on July 30th.
Roman, sporting a 13-0-1 record with five knockouts, previously defeated Cardenas in a four round war in April 2006. Cardenas brings a record 5-9-1 (3KO’s) into battle, which includes bouts against Nonito Donaire and Raul Martinez.
Roman has previously called out former world champion Koki Komeda for a showdown and is looking to fight any of the top flyweights in the world. He is currently world ranked #9 by the World Boxing Council.
Fast rising lightweight prospect Hernandez, of East Los Angeles , brings an unblemished record of 7-0-0 (2KO’s) into the six round bout. In his last bout, also at the Quiet Cannon, Hernandez stopped Noe Izunza with a crunching fifth round knockout. More information on this bout will be announced shortly.
Said manager Frank Espinoza, “With Manny I think we’re ready for a world title shot. He’s continued to improve and this has been a terrific year for him. I think he’s ready to take on any of the four title holders at 112.
For Jesus we’re looking for continued improvement, he’s still young and learning but he’s come along very well for the start of his career. This will be his third fight this year and we’d like to increase the number in 2009.”
Local world title contender Jose Navarro headlines the final " Battle of the Rising Stars" of 2008 as he takes on Cesar Lopez in an 8 round super flyweight main event at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello .. The southpaw Navarro (26-4) first fought at the Quiet Cannon back in November 22, 2002 when he TKO'd Benito Zepeda. Since then he as fought for the world super flyweight title four times, narrowly losing decisions (twice split) each time, the last being in February earlier this year in a split decision loss to Christian Mijares. Navarro will be looking to get back on track for another title run beginning with Lopez (20-6), who himself last fought in February, losing a decision to Brian Viloria.
