Jon Thaxton (33-7, 18KOs) staged a late rally at the York Hall in London to stop Dave Stewart (20-2, 5KOs) in the final round of their Commonwealth (British Empire) Lightweight Title Eliminator, which gives Thaxton the mandatory shot at Amir Khan (13-0, 10KOs).

Thaxton, with recent wins over Scott Lawton, Lee Meager, Jorge Miranda and now Dave Stewart, is certainly a threat to Khan's young reign.

"There will be no excuses for Amir now, he will have to put up or shut up," said Thaxton

Stewart was giving Thaxton plenty of problems for the majority of the fight due to his size. Thaxton stands at only 5'6 and Stewart is 6'0, a giant for a lightweight. Possibly behind on the cards, Thaxton kept pressing forward in the second half of the fight and continued trying to land anything.

With less than two minutes left in the twelfth and final round, Thaxton landed a furious assault that made the crowd erupt as Stewart went down to a knee. He made it up, but once again went down after being caught by more of Thaxton's power punches. The referee Dave Parris quickly stopped the fight.
