New York, NY - Hank Lundy wasn’t Terence Crawford’s first choice when it came to his opponent selection for his February 27th date. He says his team reached out to Mauricio Herrera, Ruslan Provodnikov, and Viktor Postol. But he feels it’s the nature of the sport and he has to roll with the punches.
“It’s a little bit disappointing,” Crawford told BoxingScene.com. “It’s boxing, it happens.”
Crawford feels his marketability speaks for itself and people should want to get into the ring with him.
“You look at me I believe I’m a big draw,” Crawford (27-0, 19KOs) said. “If you look at my numbers and look at my views, I’m a draw, who else is selling out in their hometown every time the fight.”
The 140 lb. champion says the move to fight in New York will only help grow his star power.
“It tells me where my career is and where it’s going,” Crawford stated. “It doesn’t matter where you fight at, if the people not interested in you, they’re not going to watch. But it’s a plus because I can grow my fan base here.”
It’s a good move especially because many of boxing’s big stars are closer to the end of their run.
“The boxing game is wide open,” explained Crawford. “Cotto is on the downhill side. You got the big main event players leaving the game. It leaves it open us young guys to take over the sport.
As for his opponent, he intends in making him pay for the words he has been spewing.
“Lundy runs his mouth too much. He going to get himself hurt. He lost in his last two fights. It doesn’t matter what people think, but it’s a loss.”
