Lightweight contender Terence Crawford (20-0) took a major step up in March when he moved up to 140 pounds and defeated Columbian puncher Breidis Prescott. Crawford spoke to us on BoxingScene earlier this week about what is easily the biggest win of his career.
"I was impressed with a lot of things I did in the ring but I looked at the tape and saw a lot of things like keeping my hands up that I can improve on. Overall I thought I did well though," Crawford explained.
The Nebraska native has had many impressive knockouts in off tv fights and is usually very aggressive in the ring. He altered his style when he faced Prescott who appeared much bigger than him in the ring. Crawford told us that he usually tries to box but when he sees an opening he doesn't hesitate on trying to take his opponent out.
"I have always loved to box but at times I have felt like some of my opponents really shouldn't be in the ring with me so I wanted to get them out of there as fast as I could," he revealed.
On June 15th Crawford will make his second HBO appearance when he takes on Alejandro Sanabria (34-1) of Mexico. The fight takes place in Dallas, TX as the co-feature to the Mikey Garcia-Juan Manuel Lopez main event. Crawford said that he knows the crowd will be rooting for his opponent.
"I am prepared for that. I know there will be a lot of Mexicans supporting Garcia and Sanabria and the Mexicans on the undercard but I don't worry about. I will go in the ring and do my job," said Crawford.
The 25-year-old also said that his sole focus is on Sanabria and that he isn't looking ahead. He did however outline his immediate plans and goals for the next 6-9 months.
"My goal is to try to get a title fight by the end of this year or early next year but I leave that to my handlers. I am focused on facing Sanabria," Crawford told BoxingScene Radio.
