Teofimo Lopez (15-0) will be the underdog when he finally steps in the ring against Vasiliy Lomachenko (14-1). The unification was scheduled for May 30th but has been put on hold with the coronavirus pandemic shutting down the sporting world across the planet.
Lopez held a Reddit.com Q&A session last week where fans could ask the IBF champion anything. One of the questions that was asked to Lopez was what is one of the things that fans underestimate about him.
"My technique. My IQ, ring IQ. That's what I love. People really believe I just have f--king power! People don't understand that in the amateurs, I was a boxer. I had footwork for days. People don't know that! The way I set up Richard Commey, that wasn't just a lucky punch. That's the sh-t that makes me happy, they think I'm just powerful. I got speed and power, but what wins fights is ring IQ. It's strong, it's sharp, and we're only getting better, smarter, and that's what I love. People don't see that, they underestimate that the most," Lopez wrote.
The 22-year-old has made no secret that a move up to the 140 pound division is coming sooner than later. Lopez was also asked who he likes in the prospective super lightweight unification showdown between Jose Ramirez and Josh Taylor who both have to get past mandatory challengers before they can face each other.
"I don't prefer one, I'll have both. I'll have Ramirez in the morning and Taylor at night, both in the same day. Both great fighters, they earned it the right way, fighting great champions. Both got two belts and I would love to fight either one of them.
If they fight, it'll be a great matchup. Top Rank knows what they're doing, they paid top money for Josh Taylor. It'll be a great fight, I'll be interested for sure. As for who wins, I say the fans win," Lopez reasoned.
