Last month boxing fans were given the news of ESPN cancelling their "Wednesday Night Fights" series, now Telefutura has canceled their "Solo Boxeo" series, which airs live on Friday nights. Due to the ailing economy and to cut down on the heavy costs involved with the show, the popular program that began in 2000 - will end in December.
Richard Schaefer, CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, told Dan Rafael called it a depressing situation. Golden Boy was one of the promotional companies to secure a lot of dates on the network.
"We are very disappointed. It was a long-running series and had a good following. It is unfortunate that due to this economic situation, fight fans are not going to be able to enjoy Solo Boxeo anymore. It's rather depressing," Schaefer said.
