Team USA earned three bronze medals at the World Boxing Cup in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil.

The 54kgs boxer Yoseline Perez earned a split-decision win over Italy’s Srine Charaabi to advance to the gold medal bout of her weight class, and Carlos Flowers, at 70kgs, Morelle McCane, at 65kgs, and Kelvin Watts, at 90+kgs, earned bronze.

Perez fell behind 4-1 after the opening round against Charaabi. She cut her deficit to 3-2 after the second round, and then carried that momentum into the final round to earn a 3-2 win to secure her spot in the final. She will return to the ring on Saturday, against Poland’s Wiktoria Rogalinska. She is guaranteed a medal, which will be her first international medal in the elite division.

Flowers carried similar momentum into his semi-final bout against England’s Odel Kamara but was defeated 5-0. His bronze medal marks the first international medal of his career.

McCane made her tournament debut, and first international appearance since the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She fought England’s Sacha Hickey, but lost via a 3-2 decision, and in so doing secured her first international medal of the year.

Watts also fought a boxer from England, in the rangy Damar Thomas. He was defeated 5-0, but was eliminated having been considered to have made a strong start to his amateur boxing career.

Flowers had on Wednesday earned Team USA’s first RSC decision of the tournament, when in the third round of his fight with Panama’s Eduardo Beckford a big right hook in a three-punch combination dropped his opponent and earned victory.

Also on Wednesday, at 51kgs, Jennifer Lozano won 5-0, against Ching-Yu Shiu.
