"I just wanted to tell you that Sergio Martinez is willing to fight heavyweight champion David Haye, and the winner can fight Wladimir Klitschko. But the fight with Haye has to be at a catch-weight of 175-pounds," said Martinez's adviser Sampson Lewkowicz to BoxingScene.com.
The above was a sarcastic response from Lewkowicz to an earlier story that appeared on BoxingScene, where trainer Freddie Roach said he was willing to match Manny Pacquiao against Martinez - but only if Martinez was able to make the welterweight limit of 147-pounds. Martinez is the WBC middleweight champion. He's capable of coming down to 154-155-pounds at most. Coming down to 147 is impossible.
"That is total nonense. What does he want Martinez to do, cut off one of his legs? Roach asking Martinez to fight Pacquiao at 147 is the same thing as Martinez asking David Haye to fight him at 175-pounds. It's impossible and it won't happen," Lewkowicz said. "Maybe it's Roach's way of saying that he doesn't want the fight."
