Later tonight WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (35-0) will defend his title against his mandatory challenger Jesse "Hard Work" Hart (22-0). The action takes place in Tucson, Arizona and will be broadcast by ESPN. In the main event WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez will face Genesis Servania.
Hart has had some choice words for Ramirez and questioned his power, pointing to his lack of knockouts in his recent fights. Ramirez's trainer Hector Zápari said that they are taking the comments in stride and prefer to do their talking in the ring.
"You know how us Mexicans are, Ryan. We prefer for the results of our work to the do the talking and not our mouthes. Actions speak louder than words," Zápari told BoxingScene.com.
Tucson is a short drive from the México border city of Nogales and Zápari expects many of their countrymen to be in attendance. He hopes Hart backs up his words and gives the fans the action they want to see.
"A lot of people are coming México to see the fight. I hope that Hart doesn't deceive the fans and puts on a great show for the Mexicans who will be watching," said Zápari.
The Mazatlán, Sinaloa, México native and his team are l on the task at hand but will enter the ring with a heavy heart after a major earthquake caused severe damage to the capital region of the country. Zápari said that they hope their fight will provide a little joy and relief for a country in desperate need of any type of positive news.
"It's very sad to watch the news and see the tragedy that has occurred. So many people have died and especially the children that have lost their lives. This fight is for them," said Zápari.
