The team of IBO champion Thomas Oosthuizen (21-0-1, 13KOs) are ready and willing to face Adonis Stevenson (19-1, 16KOs) for the vacant IBF super middleweight title.
Eddie Hearn, the promoter of IBF champion Carl Froch, is trying to reach an agreement with Sauerland Event for a rematch with WBA "regular" champion Mikkel Kessler.
The run for Kessler could cost Froch his title. The IBF ordered Froch's team to reach an agreement to face mandatory challenger Stevenson by January 15th.
If the belt is vacant, then Stevenson and Oosthuizen could fight on an HBO date of March 2. Oosthuizen's co-promoter, Rodney Berman, is waiting to see how the title situation plays out.
"Tommy's prospect of fighting for that title is excellent," Berman told Sowetan. "There's still a lot that must happen, but if it does work out, then I hope Tommy will fight for the title on March 2. If not, he will fight then anyway."
