Newly recruited Tshifhiwa Munyai trainer Johnney Roye is predicting an upset when his charge challenges WBA junior featherweight champion Scott Quigg (27-0-2, 20KOs) at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK on Saturday.
Roye has been roped in to assist Munyai while the South African boxer's trainer Warren Hulley is still sorting out his visas issues.
Munyai (24-2-1, 12 KOs) is the late replacement for Venezualan Nehomar Cermeno whose own visas woes prevented him from taking the fight.
While Munyai took the fight at two weeks notice, Roye is brimming with confidence of an upset this weekend.
“I have started working with Munyai and I can tell you he is working flat out to beat Quigg,”Roye said from England.
“I am predicting an upset here and I say upset because Quigg is the favourite and we took the fight at short notice. “
“Munyai has been sparring with top boxers here and he is ready for this fight.”
Roye is normally attached to the camp of Martin Murray and was in the corrner when Murray fought to a draw against Felix Sturm in a WBA middleweight title clash in Germany in December 2011.
Coincedentally Murray is in South Africa for his bout against Ishmael Tetteh at Emperors Palace on April 23.
But to ensure that Munyai is in top condition, Roye has asked to be left behind from the trip to South Africa.
“ I was supposed to be in South Africa for Murray's fight but with the task of looking after Munyai I decided to remain behind and join Murray later,” Roye.
Meanwhile Hulley is expected to arrive in England on Tuesday to join the camp.
Munyai's manager Siphatho Handi says the boxer has signed a two-fight option with Quigg's promoter Eddie Hearn in the event of a win.
Hearn's Matchroom Promotions will promote the fight.
