BoxingScene.com spoke to welterweight contender Mark Melligen and his trainer Tony Martin about their future plans. If Melligen gets past Norberto Gonzalez this Saturday in Las Vegas, they would like to step up and fight Alfonso Gomez.

Martin said, "Mark is young and we don't need to rush but we would like to step up his level of competition. I think Alfonso Gomez would be perfect for his next opponent."

Gomez is coming off a victory over a faded and since retired Jose Luis Castillo on the Pacquiao-Clottey undercard. Melligen takes on Gonzalez in the main event of Top Rank's popular "Top Rank Live" series at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
