BoxingScene caught up with renown boxing agent Sampson Lewkowicz at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas where his fighter Michael Katsidis will face Robert Guerrero on Saturday evening on the televised undercard of the Erik Morales-Marcos Maidana main event. BoxingScene wanted to get Lewkowicz's opinion on his fighter Lucas Matthysse's (28-1) upcoming fight versus former junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-1). The fight is set to take place on June 25th and will be televised on HBO. Alexander's hometown of St. Louis and Las Vegas are in the running to host the event.
Lewkowicz told BoxingScene, "It is a great fight for Lucas. Lucas will win via knockout. That I am sure of."
Alexander is coming off a technical decision loss to Tim Bradley while Mathysse defeated veteran fighter DeMarcus Corley in a fight in which he sent Corley to the canvas 9 times. In November Mathysse lost a split decision to Zab Judah in New Jersey. Mathysse dropped Judah in the 10th round and Judah finished the fight by fighting in a defensive mode. Many observers felt that Mathysse did enough in that fight to come away with the victory.
Lewkowicz feels that the heavy handed Argentinian will be too much for the American fighter. He doesn't think that Alexander will be able to withstand the pressure that his fighter will apply. "I will tell you this and please include this in your story," said a smiling Lewkowicz. "By the third round Devon Alexander will pee his pants."
