According to Pablo Sarmiento, trainer of WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (50-2-2, 28KOs), the first target on their list could be WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
Sarmiento says Martinez. 37-years-old, has a few years left in his career and could easily have at least two fights per year.
Martinez is recovering from a knee injury and he could return in April or May of 2013. Sarmiento would like to have his fighter face Canelo, then a rematch with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and then a pursued meeting with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
"Possibly in the first half of 2013 we will have a fight in the United States against a designated opponent......perhaps Canelo Alvarez. And then in November, a rematch with Chavez. The next time Sergio will win by knockout or give him a beating worse than the one he gave him now. And then hopefully we'll have the fight with Floyd Mayweather. He is the toughest opponent of them all, but we have faith [in our ability to win]. We always want the best," Sarmiento said.
