On its own, the October 24 showdown between Terence Crawford and Dierry Jean is a fine matchup. Making it even sweeter for both sides was the ease in which the fight was put together.

"He asked for this fight," Top Rank VP Carl Moretti pointed out during Monday's press conference at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska, which will host the HBO-televised main event. "We didn't go looking for him. Anytime that happens, you go make that fight.

"We told him the fight would take place in Omaha, Nebraska. He and his team said, 'Even better'."

The bout marks the first defense of the super lightweight title for Crawford (26-0, 18KOs), having won the belt in April following a year-long stay as lightweight champ. It also serves as his third headliner at home in the span of his last four fights.

Jean (29-1, 20KOs) makes his second attempt at a major title, coming up short versus Lamont Peterson last January. The Haitian-Canadian—now based out of Montreal—has since won four straight, all taking place in the lightweight limit.

The intention for Jean was to eventually challenge for a lightweight title, hence the motivation for his pursuing a regional title at the weight. When the opportunity came to face Crawford and debut on HBO, his team didn't hesitate in accepting.

In fact, they're already thinking about doing it again in the future, with the first fight still two months away (to the day).

"In the contract, there is a clause for a rematch. We're coming back to Omaha for a rematch," insisted Camille Estephan, Jean's manager. "We don't want to do it in Montreal. We love Omaha we want to come back to Omaha."

The super lightweight fight will be paired up on HBO with a same-day replay of the World heavyweight championship between long-reigning champ Wladimir Klitschko and unbeaten challenger Tyson Fury.
